How much to repair a Frigidaire ice maker depends first on which appliance you mean, because on this badge there are two and they are not related.

## How much to repair Frigidaire ice maker? Two appliances, one phrase

**The ice maker** is the module bolted inside the freezer of a refrigerator. It is plumbed to the house supply, it is controlled by the cabinet, and it is a small machine inside a large one.

**The ice machine** is the standalone countertop unit with a reservoir you fill by hand. This maker builds three of those and builds no plumbed undercounter cabinet at all — which is worth saying, because people arrive here looking for a repair on an undercounter machine that this badge has never made.

They fail differently and they cost differently.

## The figures

**Module in a refrigerator — from $139.** The unit itself is a stocked part on this make, so it is normally one visit.

**Fill valve, water line and shut-off — from $119.** Lower than the module, and this is the more common repair. The supply half of the ice circuit is where these actually fail: a saddle valve fitted at delivery, a quarter-inch line crushed when the cabinet was pushed back, or a screen in the fill valve packed with scale.

**Countertop machine — from $99.**

## The three checks that cost nothing

This maker publishes no error code for any ice maker of either type — no table, no list, nothing. So the appliance will not tell you what is wrong, and the diagnosis is what is in the bin.

**Is the arm down?** On a module with a wire shut-off arm, a box of frozen food pushing that arm up makes the machine believe the bin is full. It stops, silently, and stays stopped because the box does not move. This is the single most common cause we find and the repair is to move the box.

**Is the freezer cold enough?** The mold has a thermostat on it that waits for roughly nine degrees before harvesting. A freezer sitting above five will leave the ice maker waiting indefinitely — not broken, waiting. A thermometer overnight settles it, and if that is the answer the real repair is the cabinet.

**Is it just scaled?** On a countertop machine, slow and cloudy is almost always mineral buildup rather than failure. Scale on the evaporator fingers is an insulator: the cycle lengthens, the cubes never fully harden, and the pump works against a restriction.

## What the bin tells you, which decides the figure

**Nothing at all.** The arm, the supply, or the freezer temperature. Two of those three are free.

**Hollow or half-size cubes.** The freezing half works; the mold got less water than it asked for. That is the supply side — around $119.

**One solid block.** The cubes were made and not released, or were released and refroze. That is the harvest half — the mold heater or the ejector — and it points at the module, around $139.

**Slow, soft, cloudy on a countertop machine.** Scale. From $89 and no part at all.

That single look before you call changes which figure applies, and occasionally removes the need for the call.

## When we say do not

On a countertop machine, a failed pump or a sealed-system problem is the point where the repair approaches what the machine cost new. These were not expensive appliances and we would rather show you both numbers than take the work.

On a refrigerator module, the arithmetic almost always favors the repair — it is a stocked part on a cabinet that is worth far more than the module.

## The thing that prevents most of this

For a **module**: take ice regularly. In a second home or a rental between tenancies, ice sits, melts slightly, and refreezes around the auger into a solid mass.
