# Frigidaire control board repair

### The part most often blamed and least often guilty

A board is what people arrive at when a machine does something unaccountable, and on this badge it is usually the wrong answer. The platform underneath the three trim levels is a simple one — thermostats, switches, timers and a relay or two doing work that a more expensive make gives to electronics — so the first hour goes on proving the supply, the switch and the harness before anything is condemned. When the board really has failed, it shows: scorching, a swollen capacitor, a relay that will not pull in with the coil energized.

What this involves

Measured before it is quoted: supply, sensors and connectors first

Humidity corrodes connectors here, and that looks exactly like a dead board

On an older machine the board is compared with the value of the appliance, out loud

Confirm what arrives at the board

Both legs on a 240-volt appliance, the neutral, the low-voltage supply. A machine on one leg behaves like a machine with a broken brain.

Check the connectors, not just the board

In this climate the pins go green before the electronics fail. A connector cleaned and reseated has ended more of these calls than any part fitted.

Read the sensors the board is reading

A thermistor that reports nonsense makes the board act insanely and test perfectly.

Only then price the board

With the part number from the plate, because these boards are model-specific and a near match is not a match.

Say what the machine is worth

Where the board is most of the price of a replacement appliance, that is said before the order is placed, not after.

### The repair shop told me it is the board. Do you check that again?

We do, every time, and not out of scepticism. A board is condemned by exclusion, so it is only as good as what was excluded — and a harness rubbed through behind a cabinet reads exactly like a dead output until somebody puts a meter on it.

### Are boards for these still available?

For current and recent platforms yes, and this badge has the widest parts channel we work with. On genuinely old machines a board can be the point where a repair stops making sense, and we say so before ordering rather than after.
