# Frigidaire appliance installation

### Getting it in is half the job in a building

A new machine in a South Florida condominium meets a service elevator, a certificate of insurance, a delivery window and a doorway measured in inches nobody checked. That is the half of this work that goes wrong. The rest is ordinary and matters more than it looks: level on a floor that is not, the shut-off proved before the supply is trusted, the drain secured so it cannot siphon, and the old machine gone rather than left in the hallway for somebody else to deal with.

What this involves

Level, connected, tested — and the old machine taken away

Water, gas and vent connections left right, not just left working

Built-in cabinets get a clearance check, which is where later problems begin

Measure the opening before anything comes out of its box

Width, depth, door swing and the path from the front door to the kitchen. In a condominium the corridor and the elevator are part of the measurement.

Make the connection properly

New inlet hoses rather than the old ones, a correctly made gas connection where that applies, a vent that is fastened rather than taped, a drain that cannot siphon.

Level it and secure it

A washer that is not level walks; a range that is not secured tips when the door is loaded. Both are five minutes at install and a call-out later.

Check the air on anything built in

A wine cabinet or an under-counter unit needs a path for its heat. Fitting one flush into a sealed run is the commonest reason we are later called to a cabinet that is 'not cold enough' and mechanically fine.

Run it once, together

A full cycle or a heat-up with you there, so anything odd is found while the tools are still in the kitchen.

### The appliance was delivered by the store. Can you still install it?

Yes, and it is a common arrangement here — the store leaves the box and we do the fitting. We would rather uncrate it ourselves so that any transit damage is found before it is connected rather than after.

### Will a new one fit where the old one was?

In a builder's kitchen usually, because these openings were laid out to standard widths, but the depth and the door swing are what actually catch people out. We measure the opening, the hallway and the turn before the delivery is booked.
