### The cheapest outcome is the one that decides it

A dropped pan on a ceramic top is a common enough accident, and the answer is not always to replace the glass. What matters is where the crack runs and what is underneath it: a chip at the edge is usually cosmetic, while a crack crossing a heating zone or the control area lets spills reach the elements and wiring below and takes the top out of service. On a volume badge the honest arithmetic sometimes says the glass costs more than the machine is worth, and we say so before ordering.

Assess what the crack has let through

Under the top: elements, wiring, insulation. Fitting new glass over a wet loom is not a repair.

Identify the exact glass

Check the frame and the seal

A distorted frame from the impact stops the new panel bedding down evenly.

Fit with new sealant

So the join is watertight, which is what stops the next spill doing what the last one did.

Test every zone before leaving

Each element at temperature, and the touch controls if the top carries them.

### Can I keep cooking on a cracked glass top?

Not on a crack that crosses a zone or reaches the edge. Liquid getting through onto live parts is the risk, and heat opens the crack a little further every time the zone is used.

### Is the glass sold separately or is it the whole cooktop?

It depends on the model, and it is the first thing we establish. Where the glass comes bonded to the frame with the elements attached, the price stops looking like a repair and we would rather you knew that at the diagnostic.
