# Frigidaire gas burner and igniter repair

### Clicking and not lighting is nearly always the cap

The spark is generated by the electrode, but the flame is spread by the burner cap, and when that cap is sitting a fraction of an inch out of place — put back wrong after cleaning, or sitting on a burner head still wet — the gas never reaches the spark properly. So this visit starts on the cooktop surface rather than under it. What comes next is the ports themselves, the electrode ceramic, and only then the spark module, which is what gets blamed and is rarely the cause.

What this involves

A cap out of position after cleaning is the commonest cause of all

All burners clicking at once is a switch or a wet igniter, not four failures

A yellow flame is attended to promptly, not lived with

Reseat the caps and clear the ports

Free, quick, and the answer more often than any part. A cap a millimeter out changes the flame completely.

Dry everything after a spill

A wet igniter clicks continuously and lights nothing, and that resolves on its own once the assembly is dry.

Test the igniters and the switches

Continuous clicking on all burners is usually one stuck switch, not a set of failures.

Check the flame quality

Blue and stable, with the air adjustment where that is adjustable. Yellow is incomplete combustion and gets corrected, not noted.

Leak-check what was disturbed

Standard on any gas work, before the visit is finished.

### All the burners click when I turn on just one. Is that broken?

It is a shared module, so on many of these it sparks every electrode at once and is normal. What is not normal is clicking that continues after the burner lights, which usually means moisture around a switch.

### One burner has a yellow, lazy flame. Does that matter?

It does, and it is worth booking rather than living with. Yellow means the air-to-gas mixture is wrong or the ports are partly blocked, and it deposits soot on pans and produces more carbon monoxide than a correctly burning flame.
