# Frigidaire ice maker water line and fill valve service

### The supply half, which is where these actually break

Everything between the wall and the mold is plumbing, and plumbing is what fails on this side of the appliance. The saddle valve somebody fitted when the machine was delivered, the quarter-inch plastic line crushed against the wall when the cabinet was pushed back, the screen in the fill valve packed with scale from hard water — all three end in less water reaching the mold than the timer expects. The maker's part list calls that one valve; the visit is mostly about proving which side of it is responsible.

What this involves

The shut-off, the line, the filter and the valve — in that order

A weeping valve behind a cabinet is a slow leak nobody sees for months

Old plastic supply lines get flagged whether or not they are today's problem

Test the shut-off and the pressure

A saddle valve that has been closed for years, or a supply that cannot deliver, produces exactly the same complaint as a failed ice maker.

Inspect the line behind the cabinet

Kinks from the cabinet being pushed back, and old plastic tubing that has gone brittle. This is where the expensive leaks begin.

Change or seat the filter

Restriction here changes cube size before it stops the ice altogether.

Test both sides of the inlet valve

Ice and water are separate solenoids in one body; one can fail while the other is fine.

Watch a fill

Volume and timing at the mold. Too little water is a small cube; too much is a bin frozen into one lump.

### Can I keep using the plastic line, or should it be replaced?

It can stay if it is intact and reachable, but a line that has been kinked once is a line that will split. Where the cabinet is pushed hard against a wall, braided is worth the small difference in cost.

### The valve buzzes but no water comes through. Is that the valve?

Frequently, and it is a cheap answer. A solenoid that hums and does not open is either obstructed by scale on its screen or has lost the mechanical part of its job, and both are settled by measuring the coil and then looking at the inlet.
