# Frigidaire oven door and hinge repair

### A door that no longer closes flush costs you the oven

Heat leaving around a door does not stay a cosmetic problem for long: the cavity works harder, the control panel above the door gets hotter than it was designed to, and baking becomes unpredictable in a way that gets blamed on the sensor. What we usually find is one hinge that has been stressed by somebody leaning on an open door, or a spring that has stretched. Cloudy glass is the other half of this job, and on a range with a self-clean cycle it is usually residue between the panes rather than damage.

Check the gap all round with the door shut

Light through the seal at one corner is the whole diagnosis for a heat-loss complaint.

Inspect the hinges and their springs

A hinge that has lost tension drops the door and stresses the other side.

Replace the door gasket where it has hardened

Braided seals go brittle and lose their grip on the frame after enough self-clean cycles.

Reseat or replace the inner glass

Cloudiness between the panes is a seal or a spill, and it can usually be cleaned rather than replaced.

Retest the temperature after the door is right

Because fixing the door often fixes the complaint that was booked as a heating problem.

### The door has dropped on one side. Can a hinge be adjusted?

Sometimes, and where the hinge has bent rather than worn it cannot — it needs replacing. Doing one side and not the other is a false economy on a door where both hinges have done the same number of years.

### Is a hot outer door glass normal?

Warm, yes; too hot to keep a hand on, no. That is the door seal or the glass pack, and it is worth attention in a kitchen where children reach the front of the range.
