# Frigidaire door seal replacement

### A gasket is measured, not looked at

Seals fail slowly and photograph well right up to the day the cabinet cannot hold its temperature. The test that matters takes a moment: a dollar bill closed in the door and pulled out at ten points around it, and any place it slides free is a place warm wet air is getting in. In this climate that is not an efficiency question but a frost one — humid air entering all day is exactly what buries an evaporator coil and starts a defrost failure on a system that was working.

Test the seal rather than look at it

A dollar bill closed in the door at several points around the frame. Where it slides out freely, the seal is not holding there.

Check the door alignment first

A door that has dropped on its hinge fails the same test as a dead gasket, and replacing the gasket will not fix it.

Fit the right gasket for the model

These are model-specific and cut to length. A near match leaves a gap at the corner, which is where they leak anyway.

Seat it properly and let it settle

New gaskets carry a memory of the box they shipped in; warmth and a few hours of closed door bring them into shape.

Retest all round

The same test at every point, and the frame checked again for condensation on a later visit if there is one.

### The door looks fine. Why would the seal be the problem?

Because the failure is a hardening rather than a hole. A gasket ten years old has lost the magnet's grip and the memory in the rubber, so it sits against the frame looking perfect and seals against nothing at the corners.

### Can a seal be repaired rather than replaced?

A gasket pushed out of its channel or a door that has dropped on its hinge can be reset, and on a cabinet with a sagging door that is the real fix. Rubber that has gone hard is replaced, and on this badge the part is stocked rather than ordered.
