# Frigidaire washer door lock repair

### A front-loader will not negotiate about a locked door

The interlock is not a convenience, it is the condition on which anything else is allowed to happen, so its failure stops a working machine dead. Two versions of that call arrive here: one that will not start because the lock never confirms it engaged, and one that will not release at the end because the mechanism has jammed with a load still inside. The second is the urgent one, and there is a manual release behind the same low panel that hides the pump trap on these machines.

What this involves

The machine is refusing on purpose: the lock is an interlock

Mid-cycle stops with a flashing door light point here first

On older machines this is wear, not a sudden failure

Test the lock and its switch

Both the solenoid and the contacts, because a lock that engages and does not report is the same complaint as one that does not engage.

Check the wiring at the hinge side

The harness flexes every time the door opens and breaks inside the insulation, which tests fine at rest.

Look at the door alignment

A dropped door strains the lock every cycle; replacing the part without correcting the hinge shortens the new one.

Confirm the board is calling for lock

So a control problem is not treated with a lock.

Cycle the door twenty times after fitting

Intermittent locks are found by repetition, not by one test.

### My washing is locked inside right now. What can I do before you arrive?

Cut the power for a minute — some locks release on a cold start — and if that does nothing, the manual release cable is behind the small panel at the bottom front. Drain the machine through the same panel first or the water comes out with the door.

### It locks, then unlocks, then stops mid-cycle. Is the lock still to blame?

It can be, but that pattern equally suggests the machine is losing the confirmation rather than the lock failing to engage — a chafed harness behind the door hinge is the classic, and it is found with a meter rather than by replacing parts.
