# Frigidaire washer water inlet valve repair

### Two solenoids, and which one failed is audible

The valve at the back of the machine is really two, one for hot and one for cold, sharing a body and a pair of screens. That is why the problem so often arrives as water on one temperature only — a complaint that sounds like a control problem and is not. The screens matter as much as the coils in this water: fine grit and scale collect on them, the fill slows, the machine waits for a level it is not reaching, and eventually calls time on a cycle that never really started.

What this involves

One temperature working and the other not is the valve, not the tap

The inlet screens block with scale and grit from older plumbing

Filling while switched off is urgent, not an inconvenience

Check both taps and both hoses

A closed tap and a kinked hose are free to find and are genuinely common after somebody has moved the machine.

Clean the inlet screens

Often the whole repair, and a screen full of scale explains a slow fill completely.

Test each solenoid

Hot and cold separately, which is what separates a valve from a control problem.

Look at the pressure switch and its hose

A machine that overfills or underfills is often being told the wrong level rather than having a bad valve.

Replace old inlet hoses while the machine is out

Rubber hoses have a service life and this is the cheapest moment to change them.

### It fills on cold but not on hot. Is that the valve or the plumbing?

Both are common and it takes a minute to separate them. Closing the cold tap and opening the hot tells you whether the house is delivering; if it is, the trouble is one half of the valve or its screen.

### The machine keeps filling even when it is switched off. Is that dangerous?

It is the one problem here worth acting on the same day. A valve that has stuck open is held back only by the taps at the wall, so close them, and in a condominium that is the difference between a repair and a claim.
