What this machine is, and what it is not
A countertop ice maker holds water in a tank, pumps it over chilled metal fingers, and drops bullet-shaped ice into a basket that has no cooling of its own. Everything about how it behaves follows from that: it makes ice fast, it melts it back into the tank when it is left standing, and it is entirely dependent on clean water moving freely through very small passages. It is not a plumbed ice cabinet and cannot be judged like one.
When we will tell you not to repair it
Descaling, a pump, a fan or a sensor is worth doing on one of these. A sealed-system failure — the machine runs, the fingers never get cold — usually is not, because the part and the labor together approach the price of a new machine.
