Symptom

Frigidaire gas burner will not light

Mostly mechanical and mostly free to correct: a burner cap put back a few millimeters out after cleaning, a blocked port, or an igniter still wet from a boil-over. The pattern tells us which — one burner or all of them, clicking or silent, lighting then dying — and each of those points somewhere different.

Three ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

In five minutes

Before you call anybody

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

  1. 01

    Reseat every cap

Free, thirty seconds, and it is the answer more often than any part.

  2. 02

    Dry everything after a spill

An hour with the burners off resolves a surprising number of these.

  3. 03

Check whether it is one burner or all

That single answer splits the diagnosis.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “A cap out of position after cleaning is the commonest cause of all”
  • “All burners clicking at once is one stuck switch, not four failures”
  • “Lighting then going out is the flame sensor or the valve, not the igniter”

A shortcut

Narrow it down before anybody arrives

A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.

In more detail

About Frigidaire gas burner will not light

What to do in the next ten minutes

Turn everything off. Lift each burner cap and reseat it squarely — most of these end here. If there has been a spill, dry the igniters and give it an hour; a wet igniter clicks endlessly and lights nothing. Check the ports around the burner ring for anything cooked into them, and clear them with a pin rather than anything larger.

Why cleaning causes this

The most common time for a gas burner to stop lighting is the day after somebody cleaned the cooktop. The caps and rings come off, they go back on rotated or not fully seated, and the flame pattern changes — which reads to the owner as a failure and to us as a two-second correction. It is worth checking before booking, and we will always ask.

The flame you should not live with

A blue flame is complete combustion. A persistently yellow or orange one, especially with soot on the pans, is not — it means the air-gas mixture is wrong, and in a closed kitchen that is worth attending to promptly rather than putting on a list. Occasional orange flecks from dust or salt in the air are normal and not the same thing.

Questions about Frigidaire gas burner will not light

Only the large burner will not light.

Start with its cap and ports. Large burners have more ports to block and are the ones people boil over on.

Can I light it with a match in the meantime?

On most of these, yes, and it is safe if the burner lights immediately. If gas has been flowing for more than a few seconds, wait and let it clear before striking anything.
