Frigidaire defrost system repair
Frost where there should be none, a coil in a block of ice, or a cabinet that cools for a few days after every service call and then drifts again. Frost-free refrigeration has a heater, something that decides when to run it, and a drain to take the meltwater away — and in South Florida all three work harder than they were designed to, because every door opening lets in air that is carrying water.

How this visit actually goes
The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

01
Look at the coil before anything is replaced
The pattern of frost on the evaporator says whether the heater ran, ran partly, or never ran at all. That single look decides most of this job.
-
02
Test the heater and its safety device
Continuity and resistance on both, cold. A defrost thermostat that has failed open leaves a perfectly good heater doing nothing.
-
03
Prove the control actually calls for defrost
Timer, board or adaptive control, depending on the cabinet. Forcing a cycle is how this is confirmed rather than assumed.
-
04
Clear the drain while the panel is off
Meltwater that cannot leave refreezes into the same block next week. This is the step that stops the call coming back.
-
05
Refit and measure over an hour
The cabinet is left running and checked, because a defrost repair that is not verified is a second visit waiting.

Top freezer · French door · side by side Frigidaire refrigerator repair in Miami
The deepest branch of this catalog by a distance: 142 cabinets, and the largest single family in everything Frigidaire currently sells is the plain top-freezer refrigerator — 55 of them. That number is the brand in one line. This is the refrigerator that came with the apartment, and half our calls are for a cabinet nobody chose. French door adds 44 and side-by-side 31, which is where the ice and water go wrong, and the two-cabinet compact and bottom-freezer families are small enough to name individually. In this climate the work concentrates on defrost, on door seals that never fully dry, and on condensers that live in salt air.
- 142 cabinets across five layouts — top freezer is the biggest family in the catalog
- French door and side-by-side bring the ice and water circuits most calls are about
- Defrost, seals and condensers do most of the failing in South Florida

Upright · chest · single door Frigidaire freezer repair in Miami
Twenty-seven cabinets, and unusually for a volume brand the upright is the bigger half — 17 against three chest freezers and a small single-door family. In South Florida a standalone freezer usually lives in a garage or a utility room rather than a kitchen, which changes both what goes wrong and what a visit involves: ambient temperature well above what the cabinet was rated for, a condenser breathing dust, and a door that gets opened with wet hands in August. A freezer that is quietly running warm is the failure that costs the most, because nothing announces it until the food is gone.
- 27 cabinets — 17 upright, three chest, the rest single-door
- Most of them live in a garage, at an ambient the cabinet was never rated for
- Running warm is the expensive failure: nothing tells you until the food does

About Frigidaire defrost system repair
Ice is evidence, and it is worth photographing
A coil in a block of ice tells us how the system failed and roughly when. On these cabinets the defrost job is done by three cheap parts — a heater, a bimetal thermostat and a timer or control that decides when — and each of them fails in a way the ice pattern records. Frost climbing evenly up the rear panel is a different failure from a solid slab at the bottom of the compartment. Which is why we would rather you did not empty and thaw it before we arrive: a defrosted freezer has thrown the evidence away.

Questions about Frigidaire defrost system repair
Should I defrost it before you come?
Please do not. A cabinet cleared and dried overnight will run normally for a day or two and then fail again the same way, which turns one visit into two. Photograph the ice, leave it alone, and keep the door shut.
It cools fine for a few days after I clear the ice, then stops again. Why?
Because clearing the ice treats the symptom. Every defrost cycle that does not happen adds frost to the coil until the airflow chokes again, and the interval between failures is a measurement of how completely the defrost circuit has stopped working.
