Frigidaire washer motor and drive repair
A drum that does not turn, turns in one direction only, or turns while the machine screams. On the belt-driven machines this badge sold, a belt and an idler are an ordinary repair; on the direct-drive machines it is the rotor, the stator or the control that drives them. Which one you have decides both the price and whether the job is worth doing at all.
- From $89 diagnostic, credited to the repair

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

01
Turn the drum by hand
Free, stiff or gritty. This one test separates a drive problem from a bearing problem before anything is opened.
-
02
Inspect the belt and the idler
A glazed belt slips under load and works perfectly empty, which is why the complaint is 'only with a full load'.
-
03
Test the motor and its control
Windings, brushes where fitted, and the drive board. A motor that runs one way only is usually not the motor.
-
04
Check the tachometer or hall sensor
The machine cannot regulate a speed it cannot measure, and that presents as no spin.
-
05
Quote against the machine's value
On a fifteen-year-old washer a drive motor is often most of what a replacement costs, and that is said plainly.

The current catalog carries two top-load washers and three laundry centers, and that thinness is worth saying out loud: Frigidaire's laundry line today is a fraction of its kitchen line. What we open in South Florida is mostly older — front-loaders from the years the badge sold them in volume, top-loaders in condominium closets, and stacked laundry centers in apartments where nothing else fits. The failures are the ones that come with age and with this climate: bearings, seals that never dry, pumps that meet a lint load nobody clears, and drains that back up in a shared stack.
- Nine current laundry machines in the whole catalog — two of them washers
- Most of what we service is older, and stacked centers are normal in condominiums
- Bearings, door seals, pumps and shared drains do the failing here

About Frigidaire washer motor and drive repair
Between the motor and the drum there is a part meant to break
On the top-loaders it is a plastic drive coupling, and it is designed to fail before the transmission does — which makes a machine that hums, fills, drains and never turns the drum a cheap repair rather than a dead appliance. On the belt-driven front-loaders the equivalent is a belt thrown off its pulley. So the sequence here is: prove the motor is being asked to run, then look at what is between it and the drum, and only then talk about the motor itself.

Questions about Frigidaire washer motor and drive repair
The motor runs but the drum does not move. How bad is that?
Usually the least bad version of this call. A sheared coupling or a shed belt gives exactly that, and both are stocked parts fitted in the same visit.
It screams on spin and smells hot. Should I keep using it?
No — switch it off at the wall. A motor drawing hard against a seized bearing or a jammed drum is a fire risk long before it is a repair, and continuing to run it usually converts a bearing job into a scrapped machine.
